Meet the LSC Team  — Robert Bogat

Meet the Team Series - Robert (1)

What’s your role at LSC, and what does a typical day look like for you?
As the GIS manager, my role is to maintain the digital map of our infrastructure to keep our networks safe and our data accurate. I start my day by opening the 811 (“call before you dig”) websites and the 811 locate tickets email. I also log in to 3-GIS, our specialized mapping software, to start my 811 locate review process. Whenever a homeowner or construction crew plans to excavate, they submit a ticket so utilities can mark their underground lines. I review the tickets and either clear them if the work is no threat to our infrastructure or dispatch vendors to locate and physically mark the LSC cable.

Midday, I start looking at 3-GIS and start making edits to clean the data or upload documentation into 3-GIS to ensure our maps reflect exactly what is in the ground. Later in the day I’ll make edits for the weekly KMZs — geographic data files used in programs like Google Earth — and update the slides for the presentation to our clients. Throughout the day, I also help support LSC’s Regional Vice Presidents, providing the geographic data and mapping support they need.

What’s the most interesting part of your job?
I really enjoy using ArcGIS Pro to analyze the LSC network and generate KMZs for the weekly presentations.

What’s something unique about working for LSC?
I love being part of a small and growing team. In this environment, your contributions are highly visible, and you aren’t just a cog in a machine. I enjoy getting to have a direct hand in shaping our processes and seeing the company evolve in real time.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?
I worked at a grocery store as a clerk. Through that experience, I learned how to work and interact with the public, but I think the biggest lesson was more about how important my work ethic is.

What do you do to relax after a long day/week?
I’m a big gamer (PS5) and love to watch sports. Being from Chicago, I’m a huge Bulls, Blackhawks, Bears, and White Sox fan.
